Tuesday May 6, Northern Israel
If you where to draw a line from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, you'd pretty much divide the country into it's 2 main regions - north & south. My 2 weeks is not enough to see this country and I know that I will come back to see more of it. We saw a bit of the south at the Dead Sea, but there is much more to the country than the rift valley. The main differences seem to be in the amount of water available. The north has a lot of it, the south has very little. Tuesday May 6th is Yom HaZicharon, the Israeli Rememberance Day. It was also the second day of the trip, and we awoke to a very beautiful day in a very beautiful city of Tzfat. The city is built up the sides of a mountain, and the oldest spots are at the top. Tzfat saw some of the fiercest battles of the Israeli War of Independence. We traveled north to Metula, the most northern city in Israel. Metula has a special connection to Canada as you'll see in the photos. To get there, we traveled along the Lebanese border, and took some turns that brought us very close to it. We continued on to the Golan, passing by one of the sources of the Jordan River, where the water literally pours forth from the side of a hillside, forming a small stream. We then headed for the Kinneret, the only fresh water lake that's below sea level. The kids needed a break, and we took them for a swim. Here's the second day: |
