Cool Sites made with MGI
|
Link to code! |
This package will produce an online invoice on your secure site. This iteration sends the client a URL to access the invoice as an error check. Customizable to the extreme!
Gabrielle Laney and I collaborated on this checkout design. It was her idea that I took and ran with.
This processing set contains a custom basket and a processing page that will provide a secure online invoice for you to view. It also sends the client a confirmation letter which contains a link to their invoice for viewing.
Since the invoice page's URL is it's MGItoken, there is little chance that anyone could find it without knowing the actual token name, so we've set it up with a common password and URL. You could add a mechanism to change that automatically if you wished, or change it on a monthly basis.
I have included a couple of tricks that I have found worthwhile on all my sites. They are:
- I set up my server to recognize an extension, ".intrr" that is unique to my system. This masks the software that is used to run the shopping basket. If you want to use this basket on your server, you should set the suffix mapping to allow this or your own custom suffix. Pretty easy to do on Webstar and OS X Server.
- When setting up large sites, I use MGIinclude for every common element. It takes longer to build initially, but makes global changes a snap.
This is beer-ware. If you use it, the next time you meet either Gabrielle or Stan, you must buy us mass quantities of beer.

The entire site is dynamic, driven by MGI. Store operations, pages, includes, poll - everything uses our favorite server side software. All the major elements are controlled by one file each, so global changes require only that one file to be changed. Things like colors, positions, spacing or even the entire look of the site can be adjusted almost instantly.

| http://www.marblefalls.info | Entirely done with MGI.
Subscriber system, Calendar, Classifieds, Forum, Article system, all MGI
driven. There are also several admin pages that are not publicly available.
The Weather information is pulled from the National Weather Service and
parsed using MGI's regular expressions to make the weather badges and
forecast information.

The realty sections are all database driven using MGI. There is a password
protected admin portion where the admin can manage the property listings,
upload photos, etc. This also uses a combination of MGI File Upload and
AppleScript to reduce the photos to the correct size when they are uploaded.

Election system The Society of Wetland Scientists [www.sws.org] election system in was coded in mgi, it just sucessfully and almost singlehandedly (save the snail mail ballots) ran an entire regional election a week ago and it is going to be used this coming month for a national election

Extensive use of MGI The announcements and background are mgi generated, a guestbook is soon coming, gets about 2-3000 hits a month

http://www.lettermensports.com | Extensive use of MGI This website is extremely mgi intensive utilizing it for logins, cookies, online shopping and browsing (as you can see), bg's, dynamic menus, forms, everything, also gets around 2-3000 hits/month

http://www.fathers4kids.org/ | All MGI.
Some of the subsections are entirely an MGI article system, some are static
HTML and we purposely wanted to make that distinction difficult for the
browser to discern. The Find A Pro system (with online application) is also
MGI. The very same system drives the internet links. The threaded
discussions are MGI as is the guestbook. The permissions are handled
through a membership management / mass email system that is 3500 records
and growing every day.Tim Stiles |
|
http://www.ppadfw.org/ | Also all MGI.
Same Membership system with a modified member application method. Calendar
system is MGI and, as before, most subsections of the site are driven by the
same article system. I have a new, cleaner version of the threaded
discussion which will be rolled into that site soon.Tim Stiles |
|
http://www.fiana.org/ | More of the same, extensive use of MGI
Again, most of the site is dynamic. This one has been up and running with
fewer than a dozen error message since the end of September. (error
notifications are emailed to us for troubleshooting).Tim Stiles |

http://www.lospatios.com/ - features the restaurant module.
Completely generated by MGI and I do mean completely. All functionality and the pages themselves are generated and dynamically populated by MGI. All sites feature a user management interface. I sell a complete commercial package (Net Manager Pro) that includes most functionality and I sell modules for vertical markets.
You can see the general package management interface by visiting:
http://demo.networldsystems.com/
Some other sites running the same package...
http://www.texasbeauty.com/
- standard package.
http://www.l2ranch.com/ - includes beef cattle breeder module. This site automatically shares listings and news with another site, http://www.beefmasterdirect.com/. There are several more sites that automatically share in the same way- http://www.priolabeefmasters.com/
http://www.cgbar.com/
I also have a commercial real estate (CRE) package I'm getting ready to package into a module. You can see the MGI functionality at

You can excersize a demo version here: http://www.downtownsa.com/
access the controls here:

| http://www.polysurfacesbookstore.com/ | Cool database use
The site presently uses 3 databases - two drive the 35 related topic pages.
Setting up the databases employs Applescript and Bbedit grep searches to
take individual text files that come in as one long string (one for each
field) and formats them appropriately . . . Now if only you could script
the columnize function. :-) Because of the system the client is putting
together for keyword pages which will be used for pay per click submissions,
the site will be sporting 8 databases in the not too distant future.

| Possibly Cool.
Cool is a subjective judgement, but the whole site runs on four very functional MGI Databases.

http://www.madison-scouts.org/ |
My personal favorite is http://www.madison-scouts.org/ which uses MGI
extensively as well (I think there's something like 15 MGI databases
in that domain). Right on the main page, you'll see the next 5
upcoming events, the last few "what's new" items, and a photo
randomly pulled from a database. Also, the whole top and left-side
navigation/content bars (all of the dark green stuff) is actually
generated by a site variable, so I can change the entire look and
feel of the site by changing one file. :-)

This artist's site was built using Fireworks, BBEdit, Javascript and, not
least, MGI. Because the artist is all about design, we laid out the
pages one at a time using Fireworks and then used MGI includes to put
them where needed. Extensive use of databases, counters, email and
extensive administrative functions, all made possible by MGI. C. L. Rogers

Interactivepages -

The official webcam of the intrr.net. A pleasant scene from the legendary interactivepages estate, in Toronto, Canada. This scene is supplied by an X10 wireless camera looking out of our back window. The large black dog you can sometimes see is our Giant Schnauzer, the world famous Yenta, Wonder Dog of the Internet. The bird feeder is visited each day by at least 5 pairs of Cardinals along with Blue Jays, Junkos, Chickadees and numerous Finches, Sparrows and Morning Doves. The backyard also has a pond in the back corner, to the left of the picnic table, where our koi live. Why not consider a webcam for your site? Ever thought of a webcam on your site? We can do it for a suprisingly low price.
